How Crop Circles Work
The answer to this phenomenon lies with the evidence and logical reasoning of what may be natural causes or the work of crop circle artists. There's one thing scientists know for sure though, it's that they aren't created by an unknown source from what lies in the universe like E.T.
Humans
The number one explanation for crop circles are humans, actually it's the answer. With all the attention surfacing in the 90s though, a pair of British men came forward in 1991 saying they have been making them all over the country since 1978. To prove these two guys were held responsible for the circles, they videotaped themselves doing it with a method they do using a stick and a rope. A man named Joe Nickell from CSICOP says that crop circles have all the signs of hoaxes, and that they are concentrated in a particular area. He also says you can tell because as time has gone on, the circles get more intricate with time. In one particular case, a crop circle was able to be decoded to say "WEARENOTALONE", and skeptics argue that if it was a real note from extraterrestrials then it would say "YOUARENOTALONE". There is even a website called Circlemakers.com where that group of people plan out designs and create circles and have admitted to making a few of circles that some believe are made by aliens. They plan out step by step and show how its made by using machines such as stalk stompers or garden rollers, proving that it is not impossible for humans to man-make crop circles.
Some researchers have come up with the idea that the crop circles are formed from helicopters or small air crafts. They supposedly could stir up the crops and push them outward in a circular pattern.
After many attempts though to try and recreate the theory, they haven't been able to make to right drafts as a helicopter would. Therefore, you wouldn't see the perfectly rounded edges that all crop circles have.

Natural Causes
Next to humans, the most scientific theory is as simple as wind. Crop circles are created by whats called a vortices that are small currents of wind. They spin around and force winds to the ground that in turn flatten the crops. In southern England, vortices are common because of the hilly terrain there. Because they contained charged energy, they are fierce enough to have particles get caught up in them and produce a glowing light. The light explains why witnesses see a glowing light near crop circle sites that are commonly mistaken for alien spaceship beams. While these winds are very powerful and contain all the evidence to create a crop circle, the question still remains if its enough to make such sophisticated impressions on farmland.
Along with wind, another natural resource researchers believe that are creating crop circles is energy from the earth. The earth creates it's own energy that in turn makes the circles. Scientists have been able to measure a strong amount of whats called electromagnetic radiation that is an energy that can cause a weird feeling in ones body at the site of the crop circles. It was discovered that the crops at the sites were damaged in the same way they could be damaged if they were put into a microwave and heated up. This proposes the idea that the crop circles could be heated up from the ground or that there is energy in the soil that causes an attack on the crops. There are certain types of fungi that causes crops the bend over at the stalk just like they do in crop circles.
